Day 21: Case Study Discussion Day 1

Today you will learn:
  • How to discuss a case study
Class Today:
1. 8:00 AM Class- Group 3's Presentation
3:30 PM Class- Group 2's presentation
2. Introduction to The Case Study Unit
3. Group Discussion of Article:
  1. What is GreenPeace?
  2. Compare the two entities: GreenPeace and Facebook. How are they growing or changing over time, and how influential and powerful are they currently? What are their goals?
  3. What is Facebook wanting to do in Oregon?
  4. Why is this an ideal location for Facebook?
  5. Why does GreenPeace have an issue with this?
  6. How does GreenPeace go about addressing this issue?
  7. Do you think Facebook will change their plan because of GreenPeace’s concerns?
4. Google Doc Response:
  • What would you do if you were Mark Zuckerberg? Why?
Next Class: Debate on the article!

Homework: 
1. If you presented today, book a time to meet with me here. This will be individual and the meeting will last for 30 minutes. Afterwards, you will write a reflective paragraph.

2. Read the article I will give to you, "How to write a case-based essay. The Case Study Handbook: How to Read, Discuss, and Write Persuasively About Cases." (pp.105-118). They may be a quiz on this!

3. Read the assignment prompt and rubric for The Case Study Unit

1. Make final draft of powerpoint and upload it to compass. You may revise it for your presentation, but I still want to see a tentative final version.

Day 15- Introduction to Oral Presentation: Creating Effective Teams & Presentation Outline

Today you will learn:
  • How to develop a good team for an effective oral presentation.
  • How to structure an outline in an oral presentation.
Class Today:
  • Introduction to Oral Presentation
    • As a group, present on a business topic for approximately 20 minutes. 
    • Must use a visual aid.
    • Must include all members of the group.
    • Read this prompt for more information.
  • Warm-up
    • Discuss in groups what experiences you have in public speaking. How have you used public speaking in business? Have you ever had to do group presentations? What are two benefits and two difficulties from doing group work? Share your answers with the class.
  • Think on your feet activity
    • Pick one of these topics and make a 3 minute presentation with your group members:
      • How to make your favorite dish.
      • Your favorite place to visit.
      • Rent an apartment in the US.
      • Do another favorite hobby/activity
  • First group decision: Choose a topic
    • Decide on a business topic you want to present and get approval from me. 
    • Every group must do a different topic.
    • Please put your choice in this spreadsheet
  • (If time) Come up with a loose outline.
